Chill out. Do you have the same issue with it?

It also keeps prompting me to make Google my homepage when it's already set as my homepage. And then, it prompts me to sign in to my Google account, only to repeat the prompt the next time I startup FireFox.

I don't use Firefox anymore, I use Safari.  Safari has never prompted me to make anything my preferred search engine, and even when I was using Firefox, I don't recall ever getting that prompt whenever I went to Google for anything.

Not true.  While chrome has a lot of helper files (seems like one for each tab/window?), the overall combined size is pretty similar to Firefox or Safari for the same number of tabs/windows.  And, that's not even counting that Safari, being a native application, probably takes better advantage of the 1Gbyte sucked up by kernel-task.  And, Safari is such a dumbed-down browser as to be breathtaking.  Apple prides itself on not taking any data from its users and, yet, it is completely willing to allow others to get plenty of data through use of Safari.  Safari choices for cookies: eat them all or eat none.  That's not very user friendly.  I went to one webpage of a popular news source and got 77 cookies!  That's insane!  It's really too bad that they don't add any control of cookies as I would expect (except for their intransigency concerning cookies) that it is probably the safest browser to use on an Apple product.

This thing that annoys me the most about Firefox is that it keeps prompting me to make Google my search engine when it's already set as my Firefox search engine.

You can change that in Firefox preferences.  No big deal.

Lanny, I think that is Chrome suggesting the search engine, not Firefox.  I used to see that, though I can't remember how I got rid of it.

I actually have a Google account, but even if I sign in to it, it doesn't remember that the next time I open Firefox.

Changing the preferences doesn't work, even though technically they don't need to be changed because they are already set.

You don't have to go to Google. I get the prompt everytime I open FireFox, even if the homepage is set to something else.

    Grant & pinkstones,

Wait a minute, I have to correct myself. I just changed my homepage to www.apple.com and was able to restart without the prompt. So, it must be related to using www.Google.com as my homepage.

Update: Yep, switched the homepage back to Google and the prompting returned.

I've never received that prompt when going to Google or any other site while using Firefox.  Of course, my homepage in both Firefox and Safari is https://encrypted.google.com, so that might have something to do with it.  I don't know.

Hmm, just changed the homepage to that, and the prompt is back.

I just changed my homepage to www.apple.com

Ahh, I don't have a "home page". The page is blank (as per my preference as I don't want to stare at all sorts of superfluous ads, etc - I just want a browser window to get going).

So far Safari works with El Capitan (10.11), however it is often sluggish, or delayed i.e. sometimes while typing letters appear a second or two later, cursor not responding or delayed response. Firefox has these issue much less frequently. Though I prefer Chrome, it has been a complete disaster to use since I've loaded El Capitan, especially in resolving the relentless Java pop ups.

Actually IE was the first browser to ship with Macs since 1996, but was discontinued by Apple when Safari was introduced. You might like to have a look here...
