El Capitan shutting off USB power on MacBook Pro?

I have the same issue on mac mini late 2012 !

I have the exactly same issue here.

Macbook pro - mid2010.

Turning off USB power while the screen is down and taking a looong time to charge the iphone.

Seems that the power was downgraded from 1000mA to 500mA, because my ipad is not charging over the mac anymore.

I hope they fix it soon.

I have the same issue - 3 phones, 2 iPads no longer charging overnight - grumpy kids, grumpy Dad!

My old macbook pro is no longer charting through USB over night, defiantly no issues prior upgrading Capitan

How did you test this?

I'm having the same problem. Oddly, the USB seems to only shut off for my iPhone. Charging my iPad overnight with the MacBook closed is working just fine.

I don't know if I post this in the right discussion or not, because it is a bit similar.

My problem is mostly just between Macbook Pro and my iPad. It happens even when I still use Yosemite. It has something to do with iTunes sync, connecting and disconnecting. Thus the power charging problem.

These steps mostly work for me:

1. Turn off wifi on the iPad or MB Pro (to make sure there is no wifi sync)

2. Connect iPad to its charger until about 90% charged

3. Close and make sure iTunes is not running in the background

4. Connect iPad via USB (this starts iTunes automatically)

When it doesn't work, then next is

5. I disconnect iPad, restart MB Pro(restart menu from apple menu on left top)

6. Reboot iPad(hold home button and power together)

7. Connect iPad via USB again

When restarting/rebooting both of them doesn't work.

I just try the combination of the steps and restart/reboot work. Suddenly it works...Go figure (sigh).

Just now before posting this, I found out that if I use the USB port on the right side(next to HDMI port) it works;

But the left side USB port(next to the audio port) it connect and disconnect all the time.

When you connect your iPad/iPhone/iWatch do they sync with iTunes or not?

Tell me if it works and if Apple have found the solution or not.

Same issue here. USB ports go to sleep and never wake up :-(

i've just rebooted and now that they are awake, I'm having problems with them constantly switching from connected to disconnected when my iPad is plugged in, which is causing iTunes to go mental! It also means backing up via the cable is out of the question. I've even got a new cable as there were reports some of the cables were at fault for this, but 3 official cables from different places at different times (and that used to work fine before update to El Capitan) should rule out hardware in this case.

What about 10.11.1 ? Still we have the same problem ?

Same problem here - didn't have this issue with the USB ports on my 13" 2009 MBP until I updated to El Capitan. I usually charge both devices overnight but now they won't charge if the Mac is asleep.

It appears that 10.11.1 has fixed the issue for me on my MacBook Air. I was able to charge both an iPad Air and an Apple Watch at the same time with two ports with the lid closed overnight.

Yep, fixed it for me too on a 2011 Mac mini. Yay!

Fixed also for me: last night my iPhone 5 was charged again. So, 10.11.1 has fixed the issue for me too.

Max OS X 10.11.1 did NOT resolve 100% for me. Better but far from even 50% improvement on WHAT IT USED TO BE.

iPhone charges OK and overnight with lit close, but slow, terribly slow... iPad does not charge and shows bizarre behavior while plugged in after a while.

Some times my trackpad and keyboard stops for a while and return back. Extremely annoying, and some web plugins that needs to use the USB port (like Sony's PlayMemoriesApp webapp) are not working for me like it used to be neither on Safari nor Firefox.

What a joke. What a sad joke.
