Q: Window Size Problem with El Capitan

Since upgrading to El Capitan, Microsoft Outlook will not remember it's window size after I close and reopen, or quit and restart the program.

This problem did not occur with any previous operating systems.

Please help....

Well, another fly in the ointment for solving this. I only have this problem since doing the latest update, Word 15.27. My Outlook window opens up with the "who it's from" window being massively wide and the actual message pane to the right being extremely narrow. I resize it and next time in, it does it again. Here is the kicker, I am still on Yosemite. So, getting a similar problem with a previous version of OS and a current, updated version of Outlook.

Charles, The problem is exactly as you describe it -- but I never experienced this when running Yosemite, I'm sure of that.

I wonder if you would have, if you had this update from Microsoft along with Yosemite. This would lend me to think that it is a Microsoft problem with the update (or a recent update considering this started in October), not an Apple one.

Oh, I see what you mean. I'm using MS update 14.5.9, just installed today. I see to recall that there was a MS update some time ago that caused some problems in opening Outlook and there was a subsequent reformulated update that fixed this -- but I'm afraid I don't remember the numbers involved.

I don't think so, because I see the issue as well with Finder. As mentioned, don't have any issues with my MAC Book Pro but with my iMAC. Both are running same OS X and Microsoft versions. It must be anything else and yes, I tried all the fixes regarding Finder. Has anybody created a Apple Case to track this?

Yes, I couldn't remember the number. I did the MS update just a couple of days ago and the Updater is now saying no new updates, so the same one. I mainly just have problems with Outlook (can't check on my laptop as I don't run Outlook on there) on my iMac since the update. I have had tons of problems with PowerPoint 2016 (before and after this latest update) and an annoying tablet/PowerPoint problem that has been there a lot longer.

This happens to me now too. Was hoping 10.11.2 would've fixed it.

Just submitted a bug report on this, so hopefully they'll fix it soon. I referenced this forum thread too.

I'm having the window re-size issue on Microsoft 10.17 and OS X 10.11.2.  I just updated both yesterday so I don't know which caused the issue.

Same problem here with Apple Calendar.  Each time you go into a user's account, the calendar is shrunk up.   Very annoying.

I have the very same issue as MBSteed - the Calendar windows likes to shrink UP when opening it.  Terribly annoying.  I'll throw in my gripe on this thread, though it seems there's no resolution yet.

Good news, guys. Lastest Outlook update 15.17.1 (151217) seems to fix it for me (partially). Have closed the window at least twenty times and reopened it in the correct size.

However, 20-30% of the re-openings the window was small again. But it could be fixed by CMD-W (close window) and reopen it through the dock icon and the size was restored. Strange, far from perfect (but that is Outlook for Mac anyway) but at least I can leave with it now...

Thanks for this information -- however, this (I think) is only a fix for Office 2016 and moreover for those with an Office 365 Subscription. It isn't for earlier versions (e.g. Outlook for Mac 2011)...

Agree. For me Outlook 2016 was the only piece of software with this faulty behavior. At least it might lead to the conclusion that the problem is not OS-related but app-related.

I know this thread has been focusing primarily on windows size issues with Outlook on El Capitan, but I can confirm I'm having this same issue with Apple's own Calendar application.  I've given them some "feedback" about it.  I hope this gets resolved in 10.11.3.
