Hold down both the home and sleep buttons, wait for the Apple logo, let go of the buttons.

That doesn't work all the time, Once i had to do it 10 times before it worked again, Apple needs to fix this, it is an software issue with latest IOS. My phone has pretty much been useless. and at least 5 of my friends are having this issue..
Iphone 6+, IOS 9.0.2
Working on all my devices and I don't know anyone who is having it.
I'm having this problem as well, you're not alone *in my MJ voice.
Did you try the process suggested? If so what results did you have? Did it work?
This works for a minute. Then the touch screen stops working again. This is messed up!!!!!
Hello All,
I own a iPhone6 and it was working flawlessly until I upgraded to 9.0. Issues continued to 9.0.1 and now even to 9.0.2.
I am facing similar and lot worse problems.
Tis has been the worst release Apple released in a long time. I hope they fix it quickly.
I've been struggling with this for days! I THINK the problem is with iCloud backups.
Every time I restored my phone I would restore an iCloud backup with certain@email.com and the phone still froze.
But the last time I DIDN'T restore, I set it up as a new iPhone, I used ANOTHER Apple ID and it hasn't frozen since!
It ***** not to have your things, but hey, at least the phone works.
It's been just a couple of hours, so I don't know if it will fail again soon, but I hope not! Maybe you want to try for yourself and let me know.
I'm starting a new post now letting "them" know about this, just in case that's the real issue. Since I haven't found a TRUE solution online.
Regards!
Mijael
Update: Still broken. I restored, and the touchscreen worked for 5 minutes before becoming unresponsive. Then it began responding intermittently. Once, I tried to open text messages, and Mail opened instead, asking for a password. Couldn't make Mail go away, even with double-clicking on the Home button. This phone is bricked.
I have the iPhone 6 Plus. Ever since iOS 9 the touch screen locks up and the top of the screen on the operating system flashes where you drop down for notifications. 9.01 helped and made it kind of usable again. 9.02 bricked the phone something bad. Restores do nothing, reboots may help for a moment then it's back to no touch screen. This is absolutely asinine.
Same thing happens on iphone5S as well with 9.0.2
I Found the trick. Shake your phone good and the screen starts working. No joke after getting so mad I shook it a lot and the screen works and when it locks back up I shake it again and it works. I was at witts end.
my screen is not working after the new update either. It's very frustrating; I restart it all the time, turn it off for 5 minutes, and I have even done a factory reset and still does not work properly.
I need this issue fixed.
I can't answer calls or text.
I found that I had to go through the restore process with the phone and restore back to 9.02 which is the same version but at least my phone is kind of functional now. It almost seems like a memory leak. The shaking of the phone worked for a little bit and then it was a paper weight again. I contacted apple chat support and they said go to the store. This is asinine.
[update: Problem resolved]
I found this and followed the steps recommended. http://osxdaily.com/2015/09/18/slow-ios-9-speed-up-tips/
1) Reduce "Transparency"
2) Reduce "Motion"
This seems to have fixed my issue. No slowness or screen jumping during the last 24hrs. Worth a try.
