Q: Since iOS9 upgrade iCloud on Windows using huge amounts of RAM - memory leak

Since iOS 9 release (I think) there's been a huge memory usage of the iCloudServices.exe process on Windows. After a day or two it consumes over 1.2GB of RAM, so looks like it doesn't clear the memory properly. After restarting the process, it does the same. Anyone notice the same thing?

The PC is running Windows 8.1 64bit. All I'm syncing through iCloud are bookmarks with Chrome. I've tried reinstalling the iCloud suite, but nothing helped. Prior the iOS 9 release there wasn't an issue. I assume when the iCloud got upgraded with my upgrade of my iPhone 5S to iOS 9, there's been some changes and the client doesn't work properly with them.

I have the same problem Windows 7, Outlook 2013. I have disabled all the syncing with outlook but it's still a problem.

Anyone know how to stop icloudservices.exe from starting on boot up? I can't find an entry in the services and applications list in computer management, and it's not in the start up folder.

I just want it gone so I can get on with my work. But I don't want to uninstall all the software as it makes a mess of my contacts and calendars in outlook.

I'd rather sync them manually once a week than deal with this process every few hours.

To remove iCloud from running at startup:

    1. open up your Task manager (right click on Taskbar and click Task manager).
    2. Then navigate to Startup tab and look for "iCloud" entry.
    3. Right click on it and select "Disable".

Now the iCloud won't open at startup and you can run and close it manually each time.

Thanks. I couldn't find the 'startup' tab in the task manager (Win 7) but did find it using msconfig from the run window.

Oh, I've presumed you've had Windows 8.x as well, they moved the msconfig.exe settings to Task manager. On Windows 7, msconfig.exe still works as you found out. I'm glad this helped.

Although I've noticed that while this keeps iCloud from running at startup, it starts automatically when you have iTunes running. So it's not a 100% solution without having to close the service manually if you're a regular iTunes user.

Yes I have noticed this too lately on Windows 7 64bit. The icloudservices.exe task was using over 1.3Gb of my RAM. Had to continually kill the task. I have disabled it in startup now. How will I know when Apple fixes this problem now though??...

If you open iCloud you'll see on the top right stating 4.1 which is the current version.

Only thing remains monitoring these forums and for an iCloud update then trying if the memory leak persists.

If it is a memory leak. Maybe its doing stuff it shouldn't be (spyware) and actually is using this much memory to do it...

I experience the same problem with icloudservices.exe on my Win7 64-Bit PC,

but my devices are still running iOS 8.

So while the cause may be a problem of the iCloud 4.1 version or a change somewhere else CONNECTED with the time of the release of iOS 9, it is apparently not caused by the actual installation of iOS 9 on your deices.

Similar problem.  Running iCloud on my Windows 10 PC.  Need it to link Outlook with my iOS devices.

On start up, iCloud Services uses about 30MB memory, but after about 10 hours, it is using 258MB.

I have linked high memory use to slow PC performance so I am keen to identify any excessive use.

What could be causing this creep up in use?

    I experience the same issue.

iCloud consumes a lot of memory. Windows permanently asks to close the browser due to missing memory.
