is there a way to speed up tasks on keynote?

Even selecting takes about half a second makes it hard to work with.

MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X Yosemite (10.10.5), LogicPro, Keynote

Selecting objects on a slide should be instantaneous

  • ensure a minimum of 20% of space is free on all drives at all times
  • have an appropriate amount of RAM installed: minimum of 8 GB is normal for Keynote running on Yosemite
  • do not keep files and folders on the desktop, move them every day to a permanent folder
  • use a second internal or external drive for permanent storage od user work files
  • keep the number of open applications to a minimum when using Keynote
  • empty the system trash weekly: Finder > Empty Trash
  • empty the trash weekly in email, video and image editing applications
  • never use antivirus software on a Mac; they are not needed; Macs can not be infected by viruses, antivirus software slows down system performance, the worst of these is Norton/MacAfee
  • Mac's can have malware installed, installing 3rd party applications are of no use in removing or preventing these. The is to not allow applications to be installed when you do not expect when visiting websites. Set the security setting to prevent inadvertent installation: Apple Menu > System preferences > Security > select the option to: Allow apps from Mac App Store
  • never install so called "cleaner" or maintenance applications with names like; MacCleaner, Clean my Mac, Defrag, Disc Doctor,Memory Cleaner. These applications are of no use on a Mac, they only cause poor performance, again the Mac OS performs all the maintenance and protection needed.
