My primary Apple ID is associated with Game Center and I want to change that. However, I do not want to lose my primary Apple ID as it is tied to everything I do. Is there a way for me to change my primary Apple ID to an alternate for Game Center usage and still maintain my primary Apple ID for ITunes usage?

You can create a new Apple ID. You cannot change an existing Apple ID. Note that if you do this, then all purchased items associated to your old Apple ID will not be transferred to a new Apple ID.
