El Capitan - printer fails with 'filter failed'

Hey you Apple-Maniacs out there,

finally i got a reason to ask our mighty community for support/help but the reason is very unpleasant for me...

Since the last OS update from Yosemite to El Capitan my printer is not working, it's been still recognized but it fails everytime with the same error.

I am talking about an Epson AcuLaser M1400 connected via USB to my Air and sadly the printer is working with a Windows Laptop, so the issue has to be on the Mac 😢.

performed TS:

> I already downloaded the newest drivers from Apple and Epson: no sucess

> tried to delete and add the printer several times and even restarted my mac

> changed toner

> doesn't matter what kind of data type/document/apps are used

So any advices or even solutions?

Thanks a lot!

I'm having the same problem. My Epson Workforce 645 all-in-one printer was working fine all day yesterday, after I updated to El Capitain early yesterday morning. Then, suddenly today, my iMac is not recognizing the printer. I updated all the drivers from Epson's website SEVERAL times, and it's still not working. Not good. I will contact Epson tomorrow.

Same Epson printer/scanner, same error message!

Tried installing the latest three drivers available at the Epson support/home page, none is working.

Also had to disable "System Integrity Protection" to be able to install those 3rd party drivers at all, actually. (Great – Now we have more secure systems but can't even install a simple printer driver in Mac OS X anymore)

The drivers are available for my Epson Workforce 645 all-in-one on Epson's website, so I kept attempting to download the drivers last night and I downloaded the Epson Connect software. I was able to print the confirmation page from Epson Connect last night, but my printer still wasn't showing up in my system preferences & I couldn't print anything else last night. So I completely shut down my iMac last night. This morning when I logged back on, the printer showed up in my system preferences under printers/scanners and I was finally able to print but the printing was painfully slow.

I have the same problem and wrote Epson. They've just replied this:
"In response to your email, I cant comment on when/if a driver will become available, as I don't have direct access to this information. Laser printers are quite old products, so due to their age, sometimes drivers wont be supported on modern operating systems."

Old products? It's worked before the update.

I tried the updated driver*, but while installing I get an error message. Not working. Problem unsolved.
