Q: Safari after iOS 9, getting redirection websites not cleared by clearing history

Safari iOS 9, getting redirection to "bytemobile.com", "apple-gifts.com", ",mobilerewardzone.space".  Sites do not allow any icon to be used.  Have to delete Safari and clear browsing history.  Sites reappear after short browsing time.  Appears to be virus I cannot delete.  Do we have an anti-virus program yet for IOS 9.  Same problem on iPad or iPhone.

iPhone 6s, iOS 9.0.2, iPad 3rd Gen

Make sure that you also go to "Settings" > "Safari" > "Content Blockers" and choose to enable "Purify".  Simply downloading the app does nothing until enabled.

Thanks for the heads-up but I had Purify enabled per the setup tutorial. I did alert them that their product appeared to be ineffective in countering both the Drudgereport and Find A Grave vectors.

Please see my reply above about using an ad blocker with iOS 9.

This is not the fault of Apple.  It's is simply the fact the the website you are visiting cares more about profiting from the use of untrusted and aggressive advertising networks than they do about you as a viewer.

Actually, Apple should be applauded for allowing ad blocking in iOS 9 so users can finally take a bight out of the bottom line of the websites that abuse their visitors.  The solution I take is to simply stop visiting websites that use aggressive ads, and let them know through their feedback pages why I have abandoned them.  But, if you must, at least use ad blocking when visiting their sites.

As a side note, I'll recommend EFF Privacy Badger, EFF HTTPS Everywhere, Ghostery, and uBlock Origin as exceptional Extentions to add to your desktop browsers to fight the same advertising threats.

Is it plausible that this exploit may be emanating from a service provider? I read somewhere that routers can be compromised so I reset my iPad Air 2 to factory and used my neighbor's wi-fi to check drudge. The exploit was triggered there as well...so I assume it's not a compromised router problem.

My service provider is Verizon FIOS. Anyone experiencing this from a different ISP?

Ok I have found a way to stop my safari web browser on my iPhone 6 from redirecting to several sites at once.

First clear history and website data,

open up restrictions-open websites restricted , tick specific websites only.

Then go to safri and open any normal page, allow it to open that page, but block the next one because that is most likely your first redirect.

Go back to websites restricted, open limit adult content and paste that website into never allow.

    works for me.

Not sure if or how this might be relevant, but the exploit pop up will occasionally identify my service provider or my general location.

I was being re-directed to several URLs, especially adnetworkperformance and apps-for-fun.com until I finally downloaded Distilled for $0.99. The app works very well so far, and I'm noticing much quicker speed with Safari now.

Turning off javascript seems to fix this issue for me . It was happening when I went to drudge report. Now I see someone else saying it happened when going to fox news website. I find it kind of interesting it only seems to happen if one is going to what would be considered a conservative website. Wouldn't these scumbags normally be equal opportunity hi-jackers? I'm still going to install Purify . This seems to have started right after i installed 9.3.4. I wish I hadn't now .
