CarPlay won't stop searching

Help! my son was playing with my phone and hit the carplay button - now it is searching for available cars and draining my battery - how do I get it to stop and shut off? My car does not support carplay so it will never find a connection. I powered off the phone and restarted but no luck. Any advice is appreciated.
