I need a semi-professional app for refurbishing photos any suggestions

I am using an iMac OS X Yosemite 10.10.5 and have been using iPhoto for years and the Photos app isn't working for me.

I want to be able to refurbish tin type, vintage black & white & color photos, the iPhoto works but isn't sophisticated enough for what I want to do.

I have asked a few photographers, they each have a different opinion since they do not deal with vintage photos they couldn't help me.

What is the best semi-professional app since I am a newbie at this but want to get something better than iPhoto.

What specifically is the issue with Photos, are you sure you just aren't going through a learning curve? You can always get Photoshop or Photoshop Elements or there are many many many web based tools too. Finally, why not look on the Mac App Store and see if you can find something that pleases you.

It's hard to make recommendations specifically to your needs, however, I will give it a try anyway:

Affinity Photo: Tom's Mac Software Pick

I've been having fun and good luck with Affinity Photo, it has a lot of capabilities, is reasonably priced, and there is a demo available.
