iPhone 6S vs. 6 Speakers Volume

The volume of my iPhone 6S speakers is noticeably lower than iPhone 6. I ran identical videos on youtube and noticed that the iPhone 6 speakers were louder than iPhone 6S. I got similar results when testing soundcloud audio streams. Both devices are running iOS 9.0.2 and the volume was set to max.

Did anyone else notice this? I wonder whether my device is faulty or whether this is a general issue with iPhone 6S?

I have a 6 Plus and I think the volume isn't as high as it should be (i.e. when listening to music, compared to my old 4S). I've even had the Ear Pods that came with it changed (in warranty) thinking they were the problem. Nothing changed, so it must be the phone. Dunno might bring it to a Genius Bar for a test or something, see if it's real and fixable.

I have the exact same problem. Volume is much lower compared to the iPhone 6. I spoke to Apple and they ran a diagnostic and said everything was working correctly, so they set a genius bar appointment for me for tomorrow. I also asked them if there were any changes made to the iPhone 6s speaker compared to the 6 and none of them knew or could look up any information on it. I asked if the 6s was supposed to be equally as loud as the 6 or if it was designed to be quieter than the 6 and once again, nobody knew. Looks like I'm going to have to talk to a real apple geek to get some detailed information.

I also noticed a huge difference between my iPhone 6 and 6S volume, so i started to play with all the sound and volume settings from my phone.

This way, i discovered that by going to Settings > Music > EQ and choosing the "Late Night" mode, the volume increased right away, so far i tested just the Music and YouTube app and there's a huge difference.

Go ahead and try it, see if it will work for you too, maybe Apple will fix this somehow.

@I88per:

Thanks for the suggestion, indeed the sound seems to be louder after enabling the EQ option (although the iPhone 6 speakers are still louder). One thing I noticed though is the original sound (i.e. Without EQ option) is more clear, which is not hard to imagine. The same goes for iPhone 6S vs iPhone 6, where the sound coming from iPhone 6S is more clear yet not as loud as the sound coming from iPhone 6. So I have mixed feelings about the speakers issue!

Yep, indeed, after enabling the EQ option the sound is more "noisier", but i really need the extra boost, because i got used with some levels from my 6 and with the EQ on i can use the same settings, it also works for all sounds that are managed through the "Volume" scale.

I read on another topic that someone went to Apple Store and the guys there could'n find anything wrong with the phone, but many are complaining about this, hope it doesn't turn into a "Sound-gate" type of deal, maybe Apple will provide a quick fix, the phone sure can handle the extra levels with no problems.

I've got a brand new iPhone 6s and next to an iPhone 6 the speaker volume is slightly lower. Obviously I put their settings - sound volume to the maximum.

The "keyboard clic" is higher in 6 than 6s. In 6s I can barely hear it.

If you have both 6s and 6 can you confirm that keyboard click at the same volume is different?

Or is my 6 faulty?

Thank you
