i tried to connect my mac to my hd tv for the first time and it doesnt even do anything, plugged evrything in, whatam i doing wrong?

Since you provide absolutely NO details, it's hard to know where things may have gone wrong.
1) Did you use the correct adapter and cable.
2) Did you select the appropriate settings for an external monitor in the Displays pane of System Preferences?
3) Did you select the new input port being used here, on the TV?
i tried to connecting my mac to my tv with a hdmi and it doest work. why?
