X11 on macbook pro does not open an xterm

I recently installed X11 on my new core 2 duo macbook pro from the DVD that came with it. When I start it and select Applications -> Terminal, nothing happens. I downloaded the X11 1.1.2 update from support.apple.com and this does not seem to fix it either.

Anyone else see this or have any ideas?

Hi Tim. I'm aware of the distinction between Terminal and X11. I compiled gobby using MacPorts and realized I hadn't installed X11 yet. It turns out MacPorts installed XFree86 due to some dependency, my guess is there's a conflict between that and X11.

I haven't had time to dig further into the old DarwinPorts mailing list archives, I imagine the answer is in there. Thanks for your help.
