Hi, I have a WD 1tb external external hard drive for my macbook pro. I had to erase it recently because it wasn't responding to my password. How can i reset it so i can download my info again?

Hi, I have a 1TB WD my passport external hard drive which i recently used to backup my computer. When i went back in it wouldn't respond to my password so i thought i'd erase it and start over again. I had used the WD security option of locking it. I would like backup again but i'm not sure how to do it. Can anyone help? Thanks
