Upgrade Daniel voice post El Capitan not installing

I have read the nightmare people have experienced with email. I had this problem with the last version of Yosimite. My installation and upgrade of El Capitan went well.

The only issue I have is that the "Upgrades" post installation has a upgrade called "Voice Update - Daniel" version 5.0.7 it states it is installed Oct 4, 2015 yes still asks for upgrade.

It then seeks to download and ask for update. You select and this does nothing.

Yes, I have rebooted. No difference.

iMac, OS X El Capitan (10.11)

In response to John O'Callaghans advice: (Thanks John)

  • Go to system preferences - Top left corner (apple icon)
  • 4th line down, Dictation & Speech
  • Highlight - Text to Speech
  • Customize, System voice. (I chose Oliver)
  • Un-tick Daniel & choose to delete when installing new voice

Close down windows & turn PC off. YES OFF...!

Turn it back on & ...all is back to normal.

If it has helped please tick me a point. Thanks,Tilly Cat

Any advice given is just that - advice.

If you choose to use it, it is at your own free will.

So the App Store has a flaw. You cannot upgrade this voice using this application. Instead you have to go into System Preferences and change the voice to one not installed. This will hopefully give you the option to delete the Daniel Files.

You then go back in and change the voice back to Daniel. There will be an option to install the enhanced version. Once this is installed. You can then return to the App Store and a recheck of availible updates will then 'correct' the list and the voice will now show as 'installed".

I have had this problem too. After struggling a bit, I managed to get one voice to work. The problem is that I use several languages, and therefore need to install several voices. This does no longer be possible in El Capitan on one of my Macs, which is extremely annoying. I know how to do it, and have done it several times with downloads and so on in the system dialog. Once done, I try to choose they new voice, only to find that it goes back to the default voice and the new one gets deleted, followed by a short system beep. That's it.

Speaking of multi-language speech in OS X, why can't it determine the language itself like it does in IOS? Having to go into multi level dialogs to change it many times a day is really annoying.
