OS X 10.11 El Capitan
apss do not open, I have to force quit ant try several times to open some apps, Pages, Chrome, CC Cleaner, Skype
It was happening before upgrade but has increased in severity.
Suggestion welcome. Thx.

Reset the SMC and the NVRAM:

Boot into the recovery partition and select Disk Utility from the 4 option menu. Run Disk Utility>First Aid.
