I tried downloading IOS 9.0.2 and it then turned off and is saying to plug it into iTunes and i don't know how to

I tried downloading IOS 9.0.2 on iPhone 4s and it turned off I tried to turn it back on then it just came up with plug into iTunes so I tried to do it and it isn't working I looked on here to find help and it said to hold the home and lock screen button, so I tried and nothing happened. HELP?
