I am unable to assign a text tone to a contact and now his name doesn't come up on his number,just his number,I have an Iphone5s

SSince updating the new software I am unable to assign a text tone to contacts.

one of my contacts comes up with just his number and not his name when I receive texts from him.

when he calls it displays his name and ring tone.

iPhone 5s, iOS 9.0.2
