why won't my iMac back up large quantities of photos from my iPhone? backing up takes ages, if it works at all. we've not done this for a while so there's almost 3,000 photos to back-up, but it keeps getting stuck after only 50 or so. taking ages.

Are you attempting to do a backup of the phone, or are you trying to import the photos to the Photos app on your Mac?
we're importing photos to the Photos app on our Mac
One of the photos may be corrupt. Rather than importing all photos, you may want to select groups of photos to import and do it in pieces to narrow down which photo(s) are causing the problem.
