iphone 6s camera lag

I’m experiencing an issue with my iPhone 6s where the camera app is sometimes very laggy when starting up. Most of the time things are fine – I open the camera app and instantly see images from the rear camera. However, on occasion I will get either the last photo taken showing or (more often) see really slow updates (like a frame a second) from the camera for 5-6 seconds before it becomes usable. I haven’t seen anything online about others experiencing this issue, so it would be good to know if this is an isolated hardware issue or something others are seeing (and likely to be fixed by a future software update). FWIW I have done a complete restore on the phone via iTunes without the issue being solved.

Did you try restarting?

I have the same problem too.

Most of the time, the camera loads up super quick but occasionally, it takes quite a bit of time to start up the camera.

For example, when I start up the camera, I instantly see an image but then the image hangs for 3 seconds or so before the camera actually becomes usable.

I wonder if this is an IOS bug or hardware problem? I have only 2 days left before I can exchange it for a new one.

I Ended up replacing the phone and haven't seen the issue on the replacement. That said I've only had the new phone 24 hours, but I'm hopeful. If you can be bothered to set up a new phone so soon, then you have nothing to lose by getting a replacement. If it was an iOS bug I would have expected to see more about it in forums

there is a thread on Reddit regarding this issue.

For me, it happens occasionally, time to time which leads me to believe it's a software issue target than a hardware issue, but who knows..

Yea, I would be interested to know if your new device exhibits a similar behavior or not.

Is it the same 4-5 second lag or is it less/more on the new phone?

I Managed to make a video of the issue from another camera. however I also let Apple support run diagnostics on my phone and they reckon it's a hardware issue. Thing is, im in a country where there's no apple support available, so I will have to wait until I visit a country with an Apple Store to get my phone changed. Thing is, I'm not sure the new phone will be any good or not since you've faced the same issue on be new phone too.

And btw, I've seen the same issue on two of my friends 6s too. Don't know what to do.

ON a seperate note, any way to post that video here so everyone knows what the issue is?

Let me know what you do with it. I will have to make a lot of effort to return it to an Apple Store, as there is none in my country. However I do not want to make an effort and end up getting another phone with the same problem.

I'm still hoping its a software issue which will be fixed.

Btw, Try keeping the camera app closed in the background and see if the issue occurs then. It does not for me in this situation.

I have the same exact issue with my brand new iPhone 6s. About 50% of the time, when I open the camera app, the screen is either stuck on black or stuck on a previous image that was in the view finder for 3-10 seconds. Then, the camera finally focuses. It's very frustrating.

I took the phone to an Apple store and met with one of the Geniuses. I was able to reproduce the issue in front of him. He said he had not seen this issue before and that we will try reinstalling the firmware as a first step. We did that, and I took the phone home. After a day or two, the problem came back and the camera starting misbehaving in the exact same way. They told me the next step is to bring the phone in to get it replaced.

However, I am not confident a replacement will fix this issue. My mother has the exact same phone, brand new, and has the same issue. I'm going to go back to the Apple store and show them this thread. If I make any progress I will post it here.

Has anyone else found a solution?
