Can I recharge ipod on a different computer?

I'll be travelling out of town, and I need to know if I can recharge my ipod on a friend's computer. If I install itunes and there are no songs in the library, will it delete my songs when I plug in? Or do I even have to install itunes at all?

You do not need iTunes at all.

I'm so lost here that I can't even find the right discussion to subscribe to. I hope someone can help me from this one...it seems close to my problem.

I plugged my iPod into another computer and it deleted my library and replaced it with the one on the computer.

Does the Mac or iPod still have it hidden someplace that I can't find? I'm about 600 miles from home and have all of my driving music and books on CD loaded on my iPod.
