Dec 18, 2015 1:07 PM in response to Cedric Frenetteby djweaz,I am sick to death of it. my macbook pro is about to be slung out of the window. Anything I do I get the beachball whether it is renaming songs(they disappear into space when it freezes) I went to 8gb of ram didn't fix it, updated made it worse cleaned unwanted songs out and it progressively worse. I boot it and it hangs, if somehow I get past the booting as soon as I move the mouse it gets the beachball, and if I can get passed that type in an artists and beachball. I transferred everything to Apple for the music. Macbook Pro, iPhone 6+ and iPad II. they have just about seen their last money from me. it defeats the purpose of using apple if the one thing you use it for doesn't work. Im tired of sending reports because we all know that does absolutely no good. guess Ill come back in 2 hours and see if I can access it yet or I have to force quit and walk away while it checks the library again I HATE APPLE&*(&^%(^(*^(*^

Dec 18, 2015 1:14 PM in response to djweazby humanebean,@djweaz - have you updated to the newly-released versions of iTunes and El Capitan? I was experiencing horrendous issues with the older versions, successfully downgraded iTunes for major relief, but have since upgraded and am thrilled to see the issues resolved. You may have something else going on, and a visit to the Genius Bar at the Apple Store may be helpful — but if you haven't yet updated, you may wish to do so. It seems counter-intuitive to suggest further upgrades when other upgrades CAUSED the problem, but the difference is amazingly positive. Give it a try!

Dec 18, 2015 1:17 PM in response to djweazby joshuaiz,Have you upgraded to the latest version of iTunes (12.3.2.35)? That fixes all the problems.
Also besides just whining about it there are several fixes listed in these threads so it's better to read through first and try to solve it on your own before just adding to the pile. These threads are here to find solutions and more often than not they are there — you just have to look.

Dec 18, 2015 5:30 PM in response to djweazby atp327,Take a deep breath and do the following up grade to itunes 12.3.2, and also upgrade to os x 10.11.2. IF you do not want to download from the app store utilize your option of downloading both to your Macbook pro and then perform the upgrade. If you want you can use appzapper to delete itunes 12.3.1 and reinstall itunes 12.3 but I suggest you upgrade to itunes 12.3.2 it will solve your issues.

Dec 22, 2015 8:27 PM in response to atp327by bigtim013,Upgraded to 10.11.2, and iTunes 12.3.2 No dice...same spinning wheel crap, cannot sign into iTunes. Annoyed as ****.

Dec 22, 2015 8:29 PM in response to bigtim013by joshuaiz,Are you sure you are running iTunes 12.3.2? Just upgrading to El Capitan 10.11.2 does NOT install the latest iTunes - you have to update that separately.

Dec 22, 2015 8:32 PM in response to joshuaizby bigtim013,Read my last post. I started this thread, have done everything everyone has posted, and nothing works. If I could uninstall El Capitan that would be awesome, however that's not an option.

Dec 22, 2015 8:34 PM in response to bigtim013by joshuaiz,I believe you
What I would try next is creating another user account without an Apple ID and then load some tracks into iTunes. If you don't have any problems with that account than at least you know it's not El Capitan itself - it would be something in your user account.

Dec 22, 2015 8:37 PM in response to joshuaizby bigtim013,I had zero issues on my macbook with Yosemite and 12.3.1, it only happened after upgrading to El Capitan. iTunes knows my account because when I use the wrong password it says wrong password, putting right password in, it's endless spinning wheel. I have a mac mini running Yosemite and 12.3.1, no issues.

Dec 23, 2015 12:12 PM in response to bigtim013by atp327,Okay do you have any third party apps running say like cdock, little snitch etc, if you do uninstall them or if you like open a new administrator account and try to use itunes from that account. The best possible solution especially if your itunes folder is on an external hard drive.

Dec 23, 2015 3:16 PM in response to atp327by bigtim013,I Run no third party apps and my library is on the internal drIve.
Next. LOL.

Dec 23, 2015 5:38 PM in response to bigtim013by atp327,Do you want help or think that this a joke?
First move your itunes library to an external drive. After you do that, follow these steps.
Run either Tech Tool Pro 8, or Drive Genius to ensure that you have no bad blocks on your hard drive.
Having too many bad blocks can cause many problems such as yours. If you do have issues with the hard drive get a new one, if not follow along.
Defrag your hard drive.
Reinstall El Capitan the latest version.
After you do that proceed to delete itunes from your system.
Step 3 you will then reinstall the latest version of itunes.
Once complete restart and then open itunes holding the option key.
Then locate your itunes library on the external drive and it will work fine keeping your playlists and library intact.
After initial start up you will then have a fully functioning itunes with all your music intact.

Dec 27, 2015 2:55 PM in response to atp327by bigtim013,Yea. This all is a joke. Not one suggestion has worked. For a stupid spinning ball. I'm not tearing apart my entire computer for something else that wont work. So you've done what you have suggested on my same 2008 MacBook Pro and it worked for you. Grasping at straws is not a solution. I appreciate the suggestions but someday Apple will actually fix it by me just installing a new version of iTunes. Thanks for all the help. Stop replying im done.

Dec 30, 2015 5:46 PM in response to Cedric Frenetteby onhold,Been referring to this specific forum topic "iTunes 12.3 with el Capitan not responding" of 18,000 views, 162 replies (and counting) since it was started October 2015. This forum topic seemed to be somewhat related to my own problem with iTunes.
Not counting all the many, many other different problems mentioned in the hundreds of other topics flying around this user-based support forum.
The main issue – iTunes being unacceptably slow to respond – is an issue that has been around before El Capitan.
Almost everything you do in iTunes – create a new playlist, move a playlist into a playlist folder, rename a playlist, you name it – takes 15 to well over 20 seconds to process from beginning to end.
As of today December 30, I upgraded to the latest version of El Capitan and the latest version of iTunes. Neither of those actions have fixed the exceedingly unworkable slow behavior of iTunes on my system.
My computer setup, both hardware and software, are in very good order. This is why I have to conclude that the problems I've noticed with iTunes must be a result of changes in the iTunes application (and its interaction with the Mac OS).
When I first started using iTunes around 15 years ago, it was a good media manager (and pretty much the only one). Fairly reliable. Normal response times.
As a loyal Apple customer since 1985, I decided to follow my trust and use iTunes as my main resource for storing and organizing a massive CD and vinyl music library.
Now, after countless hours of work creating a very large library of detailed playlists, I regret that decision. For others who have created large iTunes libraries (and there are many of you out there), I am fairly certain you are having the same bad experience.
From reports on this forum topic, even people with modest iTunes libraries were having problems. (Excluding, of course, those folks who may have inadvertently goosed their systems in some other way.)
Over the past couple of years or so the performance level of iTunes has suffered a sharp decline, in proportion to the exuberant transition of that application from a pretty good media manager into a bloated software online media-selling vehicle. Shame on Apple.
Suggestion to Apple:
Split iTunes into two separate applications.
One as a robust, performance-driven, standalone media manager database sans anything even slightly related to the marketing enterprise.
The other as a dedicated Apple Media Store program.
iTunes, in its present iteration, doesn't work properly and has more problems than the Apple Support Community forum can handle.
