mac won't show hotmail inbox mails but shows sent mails only. tried deleting and re-adding hotmail account still doesn't work!

Upgraded to EI Capitan. Inbox in mail for my hotmail account does not show any mail in my inbox (but there are mails in my hotmail account when login through safari). When I send a test email to myself using my hotmail account in my mail app, it will show the sent mail. However, I don't receive it in my inbox on my mac but receives it in my hotmail account using safari. So the email gets sent through and receives in my hotmail account, it just doesn't sync with the inbox in my iMac.

I am using iMac OS x EI Capitan version 10.11.
