Tracy, is the upgrade working well for you on your 2009? I have a 2009 macbook pro
I am not an expert but the experts said the 4gb was my memory and not my harddrive. go to the apple and click your system info and look at your hardware numbers. That when I saw that I have way more than 4gb. The upgrade went smoothly and so far works better than yosemite.
There has not been a 4GB hard drive for many years, 2009 Macbook Pros had 160 or 250GB drives, many had larger (optional) drives. 4GB will always be in reference to RAM. (Memory)
