i Have a first or 2nd generation atv that I want to connect to another TV set ( I also have a 3rd gen ATV connected to my main TV and cable system). I have a power cord, HDMI cable and remote . Do I need any other cables?

Not if the TV is HDMI equipped.
AppleTV 1 - silver colour - had HDMI or component out.
ATV 2/3/4 are HDMI only handling audio and video. ATV 1-3 supported optical audio, ATV 1 supported analogue audio too. ATV 4 only has HDMI.
