Battery problems with iPhone 5. Can battery be replaced?

IOS 9.0.2. iPhone 5 turns itself off despite recent recharging. Attempts to restart says low battery and will not start. About 10 minutes later, it will restart but battery icon is about 50% despite recent complete charge. I assume it is a battery problem. Any other ideas? Can the battery be replaced? Many thanks.
