Apple TV (3rd Gen) not utilizing ethernet cable

I have an apple tv (3rd generation) connected to my network via cat5e ethernet cable. I can't seem to get it to connect to the network. Wifi works fine. I have tested the cable and it works fine. I have also connected the apple tv to another cable in my house and it works fine. The cable that doesn't seem to work on my apple tv works fine when I connect it to a laptop to test it out. someone please help
