Turn off spell checking in Notes

I was wondering whether spell checking can be permanently turned off in Notes.

After turning it off for a note in one session, it will be back on whenever I start Notes again.

That's absolutely annoying!

What are you talking about when you say "se replacement"? Could you explain what items you have checked in Edit > Spelling and Grammar and which one of them is not working right for you?

This forum is for El Capitan, 10.11. Is that what you are using, or is it the current verision 10.13?

Ummm, I'm sure you have a good reason for using Notes rather than TextEdit. But, if not, just go to TextEdit preferences and turn off spell checking, text replacement, and correct spelling automatically on the "New Documents" page of preferences. I'm afraid in Notes you will have to do it each time since it's not in preferences. Seems like a dumbed down version of TextEdit to me.

TextEdit works great for me but I am kinda verbose and I'm only using text, not photos, etc.
