Turn off spell checking in Notes

In every application that uses Apple’s text entry the Edit menu has a Spelling and Grammar option. Under that option you can set spell checking during typing or to require intervention from you before checking. You can set it to change misspelled words automatically or just underline them

Open notes via spotlight > click on Edit > spelling and grammar > click once on check spelling while typing , the right check mark must not be shown on it .

No ..There is neither any setting for that red dots..it indicates you for every wrong spelling you enter other than your selected language .. Apple is more advanced rather than another smartphones 🤘-1F3FB;😊

I have this question too. The spell checker will also insert a word you don't want even if not selected, I really have to watch that. That is very annoying as well.

As I don't use Notes, I can't say for certain that this will work. But, in Pages, when you go to preferences, you not only have to turn off automatic correction but, also, "text replacement".

I am in total agreement, though. One is supposed to learn to just be a bad typist? Bizarre.

What are you talking about when you say "se replacement"? Could you explain what items you have checked in Edit > Spelling and Grammar and which one of them is not working right for you?

This forum is for El Capitan, 10.11. Is that what you are using, or is it the current verision 10.13?

I just found that the supposedly overriding spell check preference is under the keyboard>text heading in System Preferences. Have you tried that? It doesn't seem to be mentioned above.

Some people have mentioned that they have tried it and it reverts as soon as they close the specified app. But, it has worked for me, so far.

Ummm, I'm sure you have a good reason for using Notes rather than TextEdit. But, if not, just go to TextEdit preferences and turn off spell checking, text replacement, and correct spelling automatically on the "New Documents" page of preferences. I'm afraid in Notes you will have to do it each time since it's not in preferences. Seems like a dumbed down version of TextEdit to me.

TextEdit works great for me but I am kinda verbose and I'm only using text, not photos, etc.

Thanks, that actually helped a lot! By activating and moving my native language (Norwegian) to the top of the list, above US English, Notes seemed to understand that my notes were in Norwegian and removed all the red dots under "misspelled" words. I would still like to turn it off alltogether, but there does not seem to be any setting for that in Notes.
