Touch ID requires passcode after 48 hours

Brand new prompt that I have never seen before.

I understand that when more than 48 hours have elapsed from the last time you unlocked your device you have to enter your passcode. But what does it mean when you get the message "Touch ID requires your passcode after 48 hours" and you don't meet the above criteria?

I woke up to this after using my phone 10 hours ago. I am afraid this is a trap.
