can't get hotmail emails

I have set up my hotmail account on the apple e-mail app, but it seems to have a few issues. Just a few minutes ago, the mail program stopped working unexpectedly and told me to send a file report. Also, I've had problems with it not connecting and getting mails or anything. I've found this status on the hotmail IMAP: https://portal.office.com/servicestatus

That clearly indicates that there are issues, but its been like this for almost two or three weeks now. Does anyone else experience the same problems, or can I do something to get it fixed?

Try signing into the Hotmail/Outlook webmail site with your hotmail credentials http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/hotmail/home

It is working fine for me although I use outlook.com rather than my old hotmail address.

okay, thank you - i just did. Should that fix the problem? 🙂
My e-mail ends in @live.dk - does that matter? I am not using a @hotmail.com email

It won't fix the problem if you misconfigured your email client. It will show you that the email is up and running regardless what your status message from office.com says.

Okay, I can use that with no problems. Also, lately I have just gone to hotmail.com and signed in because my apple-mail-icon-app thing wouldn't work

When i try deleting some messages, it pops up with this message: Select Command is not permitted in current state (NotAuthenticatedServerError)

I am using map-mail.outlook.com for incoming mail. Do you have a step-by-step guide to set up a hotmail account on the mac computer that isn't old? I dont know how old my guide was, and maybe things are done differently today?

- Server address: imap-mail.outlook.com
- Port: 993
- Encrypted Connection: SSL
Outgoing (SMTP) Server
- Server address: smtp-mail.outlook.com
- Port: 25 (or 587 if 25 is blocked)
- Authentication: Yes
- Encrypted Connection: TLS
User name: Your email address
Password: Your password

Because I see that some guides tell you to use a .mac mail when first setting it up to 'trick' the mail system. I did that in the very first place but couldn't change it back to my real mail. then i tried again not using a .mac mail and then it kind of worked for a few weeks until now..

Don't believe everything you read on the Internet, set it up correctly using the settings BobTheFisherman posted previously. No tricks.

OKay, thanks Csound1 as well!

The only thing that is different from what BobTheFisherman posted is that my encrypted connection for TLS says none. Well is says TLS certificate: None.. I can choose one other option starting with: "com.apple.ids.appleid.prd.714a aaaaand then a lot of numbers.

Hi again.

I've set it up with just the information you have provided above, but it still doesn't work. It syncs some of my folders but not my inbox or sent messages. The only thing that is different is that my TLS certificate is at None. I can use one from apple, should I do that?

Its weird because my mail worked earlier today, it just wouldn't sync with new mails. Now, it won't even get any mails... Hope you can help me!
