ITunes Store - "Song Popularity" Sort Doesn't Work

I use the ITunes store “Song” “Popularity” sort function to
discover popular music. Sadly, the function doesn’t sort properly. Clicking on “See All” for an Artist’s Songs
ITunes Store returns a maximum list of 100 songs (Needs an option to increase/decrease).

The list has a “Popularity” sort option. This sort portrays Popularity using a left to
right horizontal histogram. Approximately 20 Vertical Bars representing Most Popular Songs and zero Vertical Bars
representing Least Popular Songs. The sort does return some "Most Popular"
songs to the top but below the "Least Popular" songs the list also
has randomly placed "Popular Songs".

Working properly the histogram would resemble the right half of a bell curve rotated 90 degrees clockwise.

Am I doing something wrong? My intentions are to view a “complete”
list of an artist’s songs ranked according to popularity, most to least.

If someone can explain how to sort correctly I would be sincerely
grateful.

I was just looking at the curated list of 69-cent songs on iTunes, and attempted to sort them by popularity but like in Yenzer/Casey's situation, it didn't work. I understand that it's possible to sort by popularity within a list of songs by a single artist, but it seems ridiculous to me that sorting by popularity in a mixed-artist list is impossible. Is there any reason given by iTunes why this feature has not been enabled?

Yenzer,

It does not sort properly within search results, but will do so within an Artist. This also gets around the 100 limit.

Go to any one of the songs and click on the name in the Artist column. When it comes up again, choose Songs, See All. When they come up you can sort by popularity.

I just tried it with Eminem and got 570 songs, correctly sorted by popularity. For the New Pornographers, 114, all correctly sorted.
