Why won't imovie recogonize the videos taken with my Sony ILCE-6000L?
imovie doesn't recogonize my videos

Well the ILCE 6000 is shown as supported with the latest iMovie (10.0.9) (Cameras supported by iMovie - Apple Support). What iMovie version are you using?
It shoots AVCHD so you iMovie should definitely be able to read the SD card if you take it out and put it in a card reader.
