Music used to work with game apps. IOS 9 stopped that.

I used to be able to play music from songs in my iphone and even apple radio while playing a game app. Ofcourse the game would be muted etc. but it doesn't anymore since I update to IOS 9. Has it just become blocked from the updates or is there a fix around this?
