el capitan nikon transfer 2 not showing photos

Since the El Capitan upgrade my settings were changed from opening Nikon Transfer 2 on plugging in of SD cards to "Photos" (that god awful pathetic effort for a photo management program).

I have gone into Image Capture and change the settings back to Nikon Transfer 2 when SD are plugged in, however when it opens it can't find any images on the SD cards, this appears to be a common issue when searching other forums.

I use the nikon software to manage the import of my images to Aperture.

Can anyone suggest a fix?

Aha! Hoorah! rjgog! Thanks for raising this old post.

You've saved me the trouble of learning all these crazy extra bits of extra software i didn't need. All i wanted was my old Nikon transfer back to just rename files in my old naming convention, and this DOES IT! At last!

What's more, it seems that once you've opened it in View NXi (or maybe even without the need to do that), you can jump into the Nikon folder and drag the Nikon transfer 2 software to the dock, and get rid of all those other superfluous apps.

Ah. Big sigh of relief.

Life returns to as it was 6months ago when i could name my image files the way i like it to keep life organised!

I'm thinking this may be an issue with the current versions of iOS and El Capitan and or have something with a lot of photos on the iPhone. My Nikon D60 camera is recognized and the photos show up and can be imported. However, the iPhone 6s does not show any pictures. If I quit Photos and plug the phone in, Photos launches, recognizes the phone, selects it but doesn't show a single photo. I have about 400+ photos on the phone, many part of multiple "burst" shots. I've not found a way to get the photos off. I was hoping to get a number of photos off and see if Photos would again show the remaining pictures. But my 2011 Macbook Pro can't launch Air Drop or at least can't show the phone and the phone can't see the laptop. I'm guessing this is due to the older Bluetooth on the laptop. I tried to email some of the burst photos but only one gets sent from the device. I was able to offload a number of photos from the iPhone after El Capitan was released but experienced this issue recently so am wondering if there's something happening with a large number of pictures.

In explicably, I just had much the same thing happen that Jay Hill reported. Plugging in my iPhone, which had yielded no opportunity to import photos in the past, suddenly revealed photos to import. Ditto with my iPad.

I think there is possibly some flakiness with the bits of El Capitan that deal with USB interactions, but that's just a guess.

I did find that my phone responded when I unlocked it from the splash screen and entered the password BEFORE plugging in the USB adaptor. However, my iPad, which had also not worked previously, responded when I plugged in the adaptor first, and then logged into the pad.

Go figure.

I am in a similar situation...

Nikon Transfer was working perfectly, now after latest El Capitan update 10.11.1 It will not recognise my D60, tried upgrading to Nikon ViewNX 2 but the software will not install, just hangs at the addition installs stage.

To my knowledge this was working when I originally upgraded to El Capitan (One of the few things that did amusingly) so I'm guessing it's maybe a version problem within El Capitan but if anyone has a workaround other than using photos I'd love to hear it 🙂

Seems it's Nikon who's let us all down here, but then i don't make any effort to keep up with their software.

SOLUTION:

Nikon "Capture NX-D" seems to be the replacement for the old "Nikon Transfer" that I'd been using reliably for so many years... even with my now old D60 (still love my D60)! Here's the link to download for El Capitan:

Hmmm... seems to have hung on 'additional installation'... and i have to run now! Agh! will continue trying to install later 🙂

Hope this helps someone!

SO let's hope they don't take too long to update the new software. Bit of a disappointment for a multinational producer to be so slow in doing these upgrades 😟

Oh well... we wait... in hope...

Nikon Transfer 2 still doesn't work so I created a workflow in Automator to perform the job. Such a workflow can be saved and re-used when needed. Its a little bit more work when compared to how it was when Nikon Transfer functioned but is does the job. The only drawback is that direct import from a camera doesn't work only SD cards are recognised.

Making a workflow is relatively easy; after opening Automator (/applications/automator) in the right panel 3 steps are created

1. Get Specific Finder Items allows the selection of the pictures on the SD card.

2. Move Finder Items the pictures are moved to the directory where you want to store the photos

3. Rename Finder Items: Add Text allows batch renaming of the pictures in the directory where they where moved.

Make sure to save the workflow for future downloads.

I think its a bit unfair to say nikon, qantas etc are slow to update their programs. Their programs worked fine and then apple reconfigures things so that only apple programs will work. its apple who are being deliberately obstructive. i can't go a day without being told to update my software and when i do none of my programs that were working fine will now function. its disappointing that a company with such a monopoly that makes so much money can't be a little more considerate and helpful to its customers!
