why does apple support not recognise my mac mini's serial number?

FWIW, if the serial number is valid, entering it on the support page

will at least tell you your support options. Just did this with my 2010

Mini (obviously long since out of any warranty) and it did tell me I had

no support options (obviously) but did display multiple contact items.

Did you do a copy and paste from the About This Mac dialog box?

We're sorry, the number you have provided cannot be found in our records. Please verify the number and try again, or contact us.

I just checked that and for my 2010 Mini it returned Valid Purchase date and of

course phone and repair coverage has expired (had to remove the wcResults.do

in order to get the serial number entry box). I did a copy and paste from the About This Mac

dialog.

So, I wonder if the OP was simply not entering the number properly or whether there is

something else that isn't right?

I do recall at some point, not exactly sure when, but at some point the automatic registration at

first boot took over from having to manually register a new purchase.

EveryMac result and selfsolve failure just proves that the number is valid and is 'wacko' in Apple's database (happens more often than one would hope)

That's the reason the > contact us < is at the end of the error message. They want you to call them because it will take an Apple Real Person to deal with this
