Mail will not connect to my smtp server on port 587 all of a sudden. Interestingly, Mozilla Thunderbird works fine, and if I connect via telnet in a terminal, all is well. The problem therefore appears to be isolated to Mail only -- does anyone have any ideas on what could cause this? I can, by the way, receive email in Mail fine, just can't send. Thoughts?
More info.....My Mac is connected to a Linksys router, which is connected to my DSL modem. If I connect the Mac directly to the modem, I'm able to send mail ok. When I add the router back into the equation though...no sending. But what's weird is that, with or without the router, I
am able to send from Thunderbird, and can successfully connect to the smtp server via telnet. What is it about Mail that it just doesn't like going through my router? I'm stumped.

Turns out that my service provider had disabled my IP.
My kid has an old PC attached to the same internet. Our service provider had disabled our IP because 1000's of emails were being sent out from, I assume, my son's pc.
I've disconnected my Son's pc and we should get our IP back at 1pm tomorrow. I'll let you know what happens.
