QuickTime plug-in

I'm trying to play a QuickTime movie on a webpage and it says that QuickTime plugin is missing. So I follow the link out to the Apple page that says that QuickTime is built into Mac OS. I have tried the App Store and Software Update but there is no update for QuickTime. Could this be a bug in El Capitan that I just downloaded yesterday? Please advise.
