What is the best antivirus/ malware program for iMac?

had an incident where pop up appeared while on safari. Called the phone number provided and unfortunately allowed access to computer. We backed out and did not pay anything but concerned the computer may be compromised. Passwords have been changed.

iMac (21.5-inch Mid 2011), OS X Mavericks (10.9.3), OS X update was on 5/21/14

If you allowed access to your computer, the crooks might have installed something. No one can know if they did or not and AV software is not going to help.


The only way to be sure is to restore from a backup before this occurred; if you do not have one, the only other way is to backup your files and use recovery to completely erase your drive and reinstall from scratch.


Also, you need to inform your credit card/banks and possibly your email address(es).
