el cPITAN INSTALL PROBLEM installer appears but does not update

Tried to update to El Capitan but does not update Needed to leave on overnight to load

Installer step does work but then nothing else happens

I have tried re booting several times Have a Mac Book Pro 2009

thanks for any help. Very frustrating

MacBook Pro, OS X Yosemite (10.10.5)
