Swipe right to show Search screen does not work on ipad mini with iOS 9.02

The user guide for iPad iOS 9 says that you should be able to see the Search screen by swiping right on the home screen. That action does nothing, though I can still swipe down on a home screen to search the iPad. What has gone wrong?

iPad Mini, iOS 9.0.2

That would be my guess too, but if that is the case, there is an oversight in the iPad manual. The manual is specific about which iPad versions can access certain features, but the text made no mention of any iPad versions being exempt from the "swipe right for Search" feature.

Thanks for your quick and comprehensive reply.

Check the "What's New" at the beginning of the guide.

“Slide Over: (iPad Air, iPad Air 2, iPad mini 2, iPad mini 3, and iPad mini 4) When you’re working in one app, swipe from the right side of the screen to view and work with a second app. Swipe down to pick a different app. See Slide Over.

Split View: (iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 4) Tap the app divider to keep two apps open and active at the same time. Drag the divider to resize the app pane. See Split View.

Picture in Picture: (iPad Air, iPad Air 2, iPad mini 2, iPad mini 3, and iPad mini 4) As a video plays (or during a FaceTime video call), press the Home button and the video scales”

Someone else (not shown in this thread, possibly because he wrote after the problem was declared "solved," pointed to the fact that the manual excludes first get minis from "Slide over." I don't read that as referring to "Search." Before iOS 9, I was able to "slide" the home screen to the right to uncover the Search the iPad field." I think "Slide Over" in iOS 9 is used to refer to other activities because they wrote about "Search the iPad" as a separate function. Writing manuals can be a very tricky thing. But thanks for the reply.
