Why is there a "MobileBackup" on my Mac?

Suddenly there is a NEW item on my computer: a "MobileBackup" that is a Time Machine backup, but is not listed as an ejectable item! This started a month ago, but I just noticed! What is it? How do I stop it? I can't find any information on it in Support. . Is my computer backing my data up somewhere online? How is that possible? I NEVER set that up.

Excellent articles. Should have searched more.

May turn it off. I have plenty of drive space, but it's annoying. It only showed up because I set the Finder to show hidden files so I could clean off a thumb drive, and it suddenly appeared. As long as my Time Machine doesn't back it all up...

Also, the link to the original article is broken, and is now at: <http://kyerussell.com/osx/2013/02/12/osx-mobilebackups.html>

Thank you!
