OS X El Capitan(10.11)

When trying to rum OS X El Capitan, which the description says my MAC is compatible with, I get a message that asks, "is the agent running?". What does that mean and how do I get the agent running so I can run the OS X El Capitan (10.11), or whatever version I can get.

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.6.8)
