I bought a MacBook Air this year (2015) some months ago, and i searched how to put the Macintosh HD in the desktop and i do it, i used Yosemite.
Now that i have El Capitan i want to delete it from the desktop because i want to have a clean desktop without anything,
I google it but it only shows old ways to do it with OS Lion and Snow Leopard, please help me i don't want to reset all my data and star again

You need to open the Finder’s preferences, not System Preferences.

Click anywhere on the desktop so it says Finder as the active app next to the Apple logo at the upper left. Then choose Finder > Preferences. The following box will open. Under the General tab, uncheck Hard disks.
