Engravement for Replaced Unit

Hi,

Is there a way that Apple can engrave a unit which is already a replacement?

I went to a service center last week and have my wife's iPod shuffle checked (still under warranty; purchased online). They said it is already for a replacement and I need to wait for 2weeks for the units' replacement. I asked them if can they have the engravement on the new unit since the replaced has an engravement on it. They said it is not possible. The basis of me ordering online was because I want to gift it to my wife with that personalized engravement, as a gift. So now, it seems it will be just an ordinary iPod shuffle if I received that replacement.

So, is there a way that Apple can place an engravement on it?
