External drives (USB) are read only

Since installing El Capitan overnight, I now only have read access only to my external (USB) drives. I have sniffed around System Prefs and Disk Utility but can find no way of correcting this. Please help!

I have found a resolution. I use Paragon NTFS for Mac. The recent OS upgrade to El Capitan requires V14.

16 Tb of external volumes are now no longer 'Read Only". You have no idea how relieved I am!!!

Posted just in case someone has the same problem/cause.

Can you explain how it works exactly... I am not sure I understand what Paragon NTFS is? Do I have to buy it? I need to transfer documents on my external drive tomorrow! I installed the new OS upgrade yesterday and because of that I really regret it!
