Water damage - vertical lines

Hi, my iPhone 6 had minor water damage. The phone seemed to be working fine so I kept using it (a mistake which I now realise!) - after a day or so the screen faded and now all I see are vertical lines. I can't do a back-up of the phone (can't enter the password) but it seems to connect to iTunes, knows what apps are on it, and it charges etc fine. I can even turn it off by swiping the way I normally would. Does anyone know what the best course of action is? I see a number of DIY help videos to fix the vertical lines issue but none seem to be caused by water damage which may or may not make the difference. Just spoke to apple and they are suggesting the out of warranty repair for >£235 and I may or may not still have all my data on there when they give it back... 😐 . Seems extreme for what I think should be a fairly simple screen connection repair. Any advice?

Unfortunately iPhone is not waterproof. You are lucky one if it gives any sign of life after contact with water. Usually phones and water do not mix and water damage is not covered by warranty. Corrosion has already started. You should schedule a genius appointment at the Apple Store as soon as possible to appraise the level of damages. They will offer you the best solution. I would also recommend to backup the data on your phone on regular basis. The only option in this case is out of warranty replacement.
