Q: El Capitan Ruined My Macbook Pro

As everyone else, i was excited to upgrade my Macbook's OS but after doing so, it appeared to be the worst mistake i have made in my life!

After installation, mac mac couldn't boot!

Apple logo with a stuck progress bar was all what is there!

I left it for hours but it never progressed!

I did clean installation 4 times with the same issue and while i am writing this, i am trying internet recovery again !!

my laptop is 2011 Macbook Pro with 750 GBs HDD and 8 GBs RAM!

NOw all what i wanna do is downgrade to Yosemite as this seems to me as a big faliure!

I did reset pram, reset Smc, reset nvram with no luck.

SAfe mode doesn't boot

Bootable USB doesn't open ( though it did only one time, after the installation MAC starts working then FileVault appear i tried to switch it off, it refused then the mac shut down and never booted again)

i can't open disk utility as it gives my white screen only!

i am on this since 2 days!

ANy advise?

MacBook Pro, OS X El Capitan (10.11)

My MacBook air has just done the same thing.

Luckily I can back up from time machine from about 6 months earlier using the OSX Recovery function.

My 2010 Pro and 2011 Macbook Pro updated flawlessly, as did several other client laptops, Pro's and Airs that I support, they all updated to 10.11 and they all work wonderfully. Have a nice day

Well, my mid 2012 MBP did not run 10.11 well with the stock 4 GB RAM; anything more than browsing online or word processing - even simple image editing/rendering would result in the beachball. As soon as I maxed it at 8 GB, performance increased significantly.

I suppose I'm fortunate then that I don't use my MacBook for video editing/photo editing/gaming or anything like that.

Are you the person who censored me?

I find your comment very unhelpful. Please recuse yourself.

Did you have a post removed? If so, you should have gotten an email with an explanation from Apple.

These forums are user to user only and we do not have the power to "censor" anyone. The hosts (Apple employees/moderators) may remove and/or edit part of or an entire post; if they do so, it will be because it violated the ToU. There is a link to them at the bottom of every page.

So, no, another user would not censor you. What comment are you referring to?

And, these are not legal proceedings - "recusing" oneself is rarely necessary. If it were, the hosts would take care of it.

    Not you, babowa, pinkstones.

I'm just very disappointed in Apple for this upgrade. It's really been a horrible experience and I've been using a Mac since 1987.

I figured they'd run into some sort of problem, so I waited for 11.3.

BOOM I was wrong and apparently I'm definitely not the only one.

The entire computer slowed down...maybe indexing...but that shouldn't have taken from Feb 3 to Feb 15. Then, almost 5 days of very good operation until tonight.

Stick to the TOU, then you can't be censored

this link applies to El Cap as well, I've found File Vault is not for me and made my computer slow as Mississippi mule with his hooves glued to mud .

so i have had the same problem as the OP twice! the first time i ended up losing 5 years worth of data, i thought i had it backed up, i didn't. o well, i had a corrupt HDD so i bought a new one, upgraded the size to 1tb, why not right? fresh install from the genius bar, and here i am maybe a month later and having the exact same issue again. This has to be a problem with El Cap because i had no previous issues, and now the same issue twice with 2 different drives, and the second time was a clean install with no outdated drivers or third party apps. and mine is a 2011 macbook pro, according to y'alls links, that fits in the spectrum of upgradable.

The upgrade is not too old to support my computer, it is well within the boundaries of upgradable machines, not even towards the bottom-end as far as age goes. The computer won't run without random shut downs; even when 1 of several other hard drives with older operating systems on it is installed. I did not go head first and upgrade without having many backups. I maintain my machines. This is not a hard drive issue, it is not a battery or power supply issue (both of which are new) - I have had several techs look at it for an outside opinion other than my own, all of which agree that the OS altered the firmware of my GPU or logic board, which has now rendered it a paperweight.

Stop talking and engage counsel for your lawsuit, all of this nonsense will work against you when that starts.

Update: i took my macbook pro into the apple store, they tested my HDD and its bracket, turns out it was a logic board issue. My model was also part of a free repair program (I'm guessing due to a known issue with the hardware). They replaced the logic board and all subsequent parts (HDD, Battery, Brackets). So if you are having trouble getting your macbook pro to start in any mode, take it to the store and see if you qualify for the repair.

I have the same problem on an older MacBook Pro with El Capitan. I spoke directly with an Apple engineer who looked at the data for my computer and said absolutely El Capitan would work no problem on my laptop. After installing it work for two weeks and then crazy screen and then I brought it in and was charged $80 to find out something was corrupted. They fixed it and now it has worked for four weeks and it just happened again. I believe Apple planned this, is

And I would absolutely take part in a class action lawsuit against Apple. I have wasted a lot of time with this and at this point I am certain I am being forced to purchase a brand-new computer

El Capitan has destroyed my Mini Mac. "Time Machine" for Apple must mean turning into a properly functioning personal computer into a Windows ME machine circa 1999. Even that was better than what I have now.
