Bootcamp not showing Windows after El Capitan update.

My Macbook asked about updating to El Capitan whilst I was using yesterday and I thought why not. So the update completes without a hitch. Later I restart to go do some work in windows 7, hold down alt as usual and no sign of windows on the start up menu.

So I've read around the net and think I understand what has happened with the OS X installer messing with the partitions, but don't want to totally fry my windows partition without messing with things i don't know a lot about. So can any kind soul please help me through the process of trying to repair it as I have software and data I would really not like to lose.

This is the only 188GB partition. Can you check the next MS Data (it is roughly half the size though)?

I get the same error with that one and the rest. The only ms data that moves forward is the first on the list, that starts at 1367940753

Since you a Fusion drive, please add

sudo gpt -vv -r show /dev/disk1

sudo fdisk /dev/disk1

Your Bootcamp should be on the HDD under normal circumstances.

The last MS data is the only one that moves forward but i still get the following. and pressing Q from here takes me right back out to the first menu to rescan. it did the same with the one from earlier which is why i redid the scan.

Try using Escape only once. It is supposed to take you back one screen. If you are unable to see a valid partition, we can force the 188GB to become a potential candidate and try Windows Repair, but it does not look very promising. 😟

Have you resized your BC/Windows partition at any time after it was originally installed using any tools?

I did resize shortly after I did the BC I can't recall what tool was used unfortunately.

The resizing tools have two challenges,

1. Keep the GPT and MVR in sync, and,

2. Leaving the old 'live' NTFS header intact.

The upgrade gets confused and will usually pick the incorrect such header. It causes nasty consequences.

Do you have a backup of Windows (or at least your files) and the ability to remove BC/Windows and re-install?

In my early search for a solution I have seen a lot about the problems with resizing, unfortunately I didn't know of this issue beforehand.

As for a backup unfortunately not which was silly of me to not do so before the upgrade, but last time I did it I didn't have a problem.

I don't know if this info from partition inspector shows anything of use.

This is your current GPT4. It is about 92GB. We can try to make the hybrid MBR match this GPT4 entry and you can test Windows Startup Repair or use chkdsk to see if you can get your files.

Since this is GPT4 as of now, can you see any files in Finder when you open the BC volume?
