Any ideas why I no longer get audio via MiniDisplayPort after upgrading to 10.11?

Think I have just sorted this. Used the tried and tested 'unplug' everything and plug it back in after a minute. Sound restored via MDP (& via USB, which I hadn't seen as an option for some time!).
